Q 1: What are Tiger Logistics key offerings?

It is an end-to-end logistics solutions provider and services transportation, customs clearance, sea and air rate requirements across all industries. What actually are the core strength of your company – which segment is more focused and the major source of earning your company’s revenues? 

About 75% of the revenues come from freight forwarding and multi-modal operations while the balance is from customs clearance and transportation, consultancy. We are more of a sea freight company, focusing purely an international logistics and are not into domestic logistics at all.  

Tiger Logistics major focus areas in services are India-South America, India-Africa and India-East Asia trade lanes, which handles close to 50% of India’s export two-wheelers across these sectors. Will you please elaborate? 

From the initial stages itself, we were very keen to work with developing trade lanes – be it India-South America or India-Africa because there is already lot of competition on the traditional trade lanes of India-Europe, India-Mediterranean, India-US, or India-Australia and New Zealand. We always wanted to be in newer markets where there were lesser players. 

These early forays into newer trade lanes helped us establish ourselves as a very strong name in those trade lanes. So today, if you talk about India-Mexico, India-Central America, India-Columbia or India-Peru, we are in the top three logistics companies from India to these locations and we are further delving into these markets so that we retain these top three positions. 

With other economies going into recession and not doing well, it definitely is a good decision for us to be in these markets and they continue to grow. So, I think we are in right space and we will be investing more into these trade lanes and strengthening our position in these markets. 

Government is nowadays focusing more on the recently launched PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, According to you, what will be its impact on the Logistics sector in India?  

While the micro benefits will surely accrue at a later stage because it will take a few years to get some real benefits on the table, I am extremely happy about the macro benefits which will accrue because of the focus on the logistics sector by the government. Today, when you say you are from logistics sector, people see you differently because the prime minister has shone a spotlight on the sector. There’s a recently launched national logistics policy in place and it’s great that today at least the government is talking about logistics sector evolution which will propel a shift in in the attitude towards it from other government sectors. So definitely these projects like Gati Shakti and National Logistics Policy will help us in the long run and I am very bullish personally on the government focus on this sector. 

What is your take on Govt. of India’s initiatives to set-up Multi-modal logistics parks across the country? 

Integrated freight parks will greatly help India’s logistics sector by easing freight logistics, making the freight movement seamless, saving time, and reducing costs. This will encourage the export market of India and fix the infrastructure gap in our industry. These parks will also increase employment and help boost the economy. 

The future of global supply chains: What are the implications for international trade? 

Supply chains are very dependent on customer demand, and as those patterns change, supply chain strategies need to evolve to cater to those. With tools like AI and IoT, technology is a big contributor in that — it helps increase resiliency as well as transparency that help both businesses and customers to make informed decisions about their supply chain. At the same time, this will aid them to change and adapt to changing circumstances.  

While automation will continue to be on the rise, a shift towards sustainable supply chains is imperative and predicted. With greater visibility about carbon emissions, shipping transit times and more, shipping will be adequately optimized to overcome these challenges. 

What are your future expansion plans with respect to expanding your services? 

We definitely are looking at some options for inorganic growth and are open to acquisitions especially in the loose container goods (LCG) space, so we are looking for some acquisitions happening and we’ve given this mandate to some people.
