Cognizant and Google Cloud Commit 18,000 Engineers to Enterprise Agentic AI

New Gemini Frontier Capability Group aims to move AI agents from pilots into production, backed by training for more than 55,000 Cognizant associates.

Cognizant and Google Cloud are expanding their partnership to accelerate enterprise adoption of agentic AI, establishing a dedicated Gemini Frontier Capability Group backed by more than 18,000 Cognizant associates.

Announced on October 20, 2026, the initiative combines Google Cloud’s AI platform with Cognizant’s industry, domain and engineering expertise to help enterprises deploy AI agents in production environments. The focus is on moving beyond experimental projects towards secure, scalable implementations that deliver measurable business outcomes.

The new group will initially concentrate on legacy modernisation, developer experience, autonomous business-process automation and advanced cyber defence. Its architecture will use the Model Context Protocol (MCP), supported by Google Cloud’s Model Armor security capabilities, to help build and govern enterprise AI agents.

“Deploying AI agents at scale requires trusted partners with deep architectural and integration expertise.” — Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer, Google Cloud

The companies plan to develop solutions for specific industry workflows, including Cognizant’s Catalog Support Agent for retail, its Neuro SAN-orchestrated Healthcare Agentic Marketplace, and multi-agent Order-to-Cash workflows for manufacturing.

Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, said the dedicated group would allow the company’s engineering talent to focus on bringing advanced AI into production. He added that training more than 55,000 associates through the Build with Gemini workshop had provided a foundation for scaling client implementations.

The workshop, conducted with Google Cloud, is described by Cognizant as the largest single Gemini partner workshop to date. Participants built AI agents and applications while developing skills on Google’s AI platform.

The partnership is also highlighting early productivity gains. Cognizant said integrating Gemini models across a leading retailer’s software development lifecycle helped increase developer productivity by 40%, reduce time-to-market by 30% and deliver 35% cost savings.

Cognizant is deploying Gemini internally to 100,000 associates in 2026, with plans to expand access to 200,000. The broader initiative includes a shared commitment to develop Frontier Certified Engineers to support enterprise deployments.

The expansion builds on Cognizant’s dedicated Gemini practice launched in April 2026. It reflects growing demand for AI agents capable of executing complex workflows, while raising the importance of security, integration and governance.

For enterprises, the next challenge is turning agentic AI investments into dependable operational systems. The expanded alliance aims to address that gap by combining technical infrastructure, trained engineering teams and industry-specific applications to accelerate adoption at scale.
