HID Acquires inepro ID to Expand Secure Print and Contactless Authentication Portfolio

HID

The acquisition adds credential-agnostic RFID and Bluetooth Low Energy readers, software and services, strengthening HID’s ability to secure printers, lockers and other shared workplace devices.

HID has acquired inepro ID, a Netherlands-based provider of contactless authentication solutions for secure print release and identity management, in a move to broaden its secure-print portfolio and extend its presence in the shared-workplace technology market.

Part of the Dutch inepro Group, inepro ID specialises in radio-frequency identification (RFID) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) authentication technologies. Its solutions support secure cloud printing, document-flow control, smart locker management, micropayments and user activity registration. The company has an established customer base in Europe and a growing presence in North and Latin America.

The acquisition brings HID a portfolio of credential-agnostic readers, software and professional services. Its Spider reader family includes embedded devices for printers and lockers, alongside desktop and portable readers designed for authentication at workstations, digital boards and cash registers.

The move reflects growing demand for identity systems that work consistently across physical and digital environments, particularly as organisations adopt shared workspaces and flexible working models.

“Customers want an identity experience that is part of a larger ecosystem, including interactions from the door to the printer, the locker, the workstation and beyond.”

— Björn Lidefelt, EVP and Head of HID

“inepro ID strengthens our ecosystem with their expertise in secure print,” said Björn Lidefelt, EVP and Head of HID. He added that the combined portfolio would extend trusted identity solutions across more everyday workplace interactions.

Marc Bielmann, SVP and Head of Identification Technologies at HID, said demand for RFID-based secure printing is increasing as organisations face stronger security requirements and wider use of shared workspaces. He said inepro ID’s technology and market expertise, combined with HID’s global reach, would help customers protect sensitive documents and simplify user authentication across different credential technologies.

inepro ID will become part of HID’s Identification Technologies (IDT) Business Area, alongside the OMNIKEY portfolio. HID plans to build on more than 25 years of OMNIKEY experience, integrating inepro ID’s secure-print capabilities with its global sales, engineering and operational resources. The company said it would continue supporting existing inepro ID customers and partners.

For inepro Group, the transaction also marks a strategic shift. Jeroen Pynenburg, CEO of inepro Group BV, said the ID business would gain opportunities to scale globally under HID, allowing inepro Group to sharpen its focus on smart energy metering and energy intelligence.

The acquisition strengthens HID’s position in secure print authentication, where identity verification is increasingly extending beyond conventional access-control systems to printers, lockers and other shared devices. It also reflects a broader enterprise requirement: consistent, credential-flexible authentication across the workplace.
