At its Mumbai leadership meet, the company highlighted ransomware recovery, third-party exposure and AI-related risks as organisations move beyond regulatory compliance towards operational resilience.
Vembu Technologies has urged Indian enterprises to make recovery testing a central part of their data protection strategies as they prepare for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, and the DPDP Rules, 2025.
At the second edition of its Vembu Meet series in Mumbai, the company brought together CXOs, CISOs and IT leaders to examine how organisations can translate compliance requirements into practical cyber resilience. The discussions focused on breach response, ransomware recovery, third-party risks and the security implications of growing AI adoption.
The invite-only event at Holiday Inn Mumbai International Airport featured a session on recovery readiness, a panel discussion on DPDP compliance and data protection, and demonstrations of Vembu’s BDRShield and XDRShield platforms. Participants represented sectors including BFSI, manufacturing, logistics and healthcare, with organisations such as Aditya Birla Capital, Upstox and Borosil Scientific among those represented.
“Data protection is no longer about storing data safely. It is about whether a business can keep running when something goes wrong.” — Sekar Vembu, Founder and CEO, Vembu Technologies
The central message was that documented recovery objectives are insufficient unless organisations regularly verify their ability to restore systems and data. Recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) must be tested against realistic scenarios, while backup infrastructure and security operations need to work together to limit downtime following an incident.
“Recovery readiness has to be a continuous discipline, not an annual exercise,” said Sekar Vembu, Founder and CEO, Vembu Technologies, arguing that business continuity matters more than simply maintaining backups.
Nagarajan Chandrasekaran, Vice President, Product Management, Vembu Technologies, added that management support is essential to making recovery readiness a business priority rather than treating it solely as an IT expense.
The Mumbai event also marked the unveiling of DPDP Explained, a book intended to help Indian businesses understand the legislation and its associated rules.
Vembu Meet will continue in Coimbatore on October 30. The series reflects a broader shift in enterprise cybersecurity: compliance establishes obligations, but tested recovery capabilities determine how effectively businesses can withstand disruption and resume operations.
