UTStarcom India Embarks on Aggressive Strategy

Focuses on country’s growing carrier Wi-Fi market

Given the phenomenal growth in the Indian telecom sector in the past years, UTStarcom announced its aggressive India plans for the year 2015. Building upon its previous success, the global telecom infrastructure giant now aims to achieve a market share of 50% in 2015.

With highly reliable products and world class services, the company is confident to provide pertinent infrastructure support to telecommunications carriers for efficiently servicing the rapidly growing demand of an advanced ‘Indian Digital Highway’. In order to realise the same, the company has begun exploring newer avenues to become a well suited partner for national initiatives like Smart Cities, NOFN and Wi-Fi deployment at public places and so on.

UTStarcom today enjoys a privileged position in the Indian market given its existing relationships with cable and broadband service providers. These companies are eager to adopt new technologies and business models that will help them retain customers and avoid the “cord-cutting” that is seen in other developed markets. UTStarcom has taken aggressive initiatives to proactively promote its new products and solutions to the existing and new customers including carriers, MSOs, MNOs, service providers in key target markets in India. Initiating further, the company now aims to reach out to new industries and geographical markets in 2015 with its cutting-edge technologies.

With the emergent smartphone and telecom revolution in India, end-user consumers have thrived for more and more speed and accessibility in 2014. This has generated greater challenges and bigger opportunities for global telecom infrastructure players like UTStarcom to deploy innovations and superior class services for telecom carriers. Without compromising on high performance and rich functionality, UTStarcom has thus delivered pertinent products for Indian market that provide very high port density for smaller equipment footprint, and low power consumption, resulting in further CAPEX and OPEX savings related to networks deployment and operation.

Sharing the aggressive plans to capture the promising Indian Telecom market, Rahul Pandey, Director Sales & Marketing (India and SAARC) said, ”Per a recent report from PwC, the 4G subscriber base is expected to reach 10-15 million by December 2015 in the country. Beside this the country has already achieved the position of world’s second largest Smartphone market. These growth figures have motivated us to engage more directly with prospective customers and the network technology community in the country through our highly reliable products and solutions designed for simplified operations and cost reduction. We seek to further strengthen our position as a reliable partner to our customers, providing right products and services. We intend to innovate, develop and offer products designed to meet the business needs for our existing and new customers including carriers, MSOs, MNOs, service providers in the country.”

“Recently the company has made significant investments in iTV Media and aioTV and we are confident that we will leverage the growth and the development of their businesses in Indian market. We are the leaders in SDN technology and we expect that SDN technology will play a central role in the deployment of cloud-based computing, storage, and other services, which is already a gathering trend. Demand for SDN products is expected to grow dramatically over the next few years in the telecom community. Also Wi-Fi is going to be the next buzz word for Indian Telecom growth story. We consider our further involvement into Carrier Wi-Fi market through engagement with some of the industry leading alliances and potential acquisitions”, he further added while commenting on the key focus areas for growth in Indian Telecom sector.

UTStarcom’s customers in India include leading telecom service providers, such as Airtel, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance and TATA Communications.
