Uber & Micromax Join Hands to Enable Seamless Mobility for Indian Market

A first-of-its-kind exclusive partnership for the Indian market to help put seamless and superior technology in the hands of millions of users; with plans to see a push of 100 million devices over the next 3 years with this integration

Micromax Informatics, India’s leading mobile brand and ridesharing app Uber today announced an exclusive partnership to create seamless mobility experience for its users. Simplifying mobility options for all Micromax users by providing unique on-device native experience, the partnership will aim to target 100 million Micromax users to ride an Uber through integrated experiences over the next three years.

As one of the leading handset players, Micromax is working towards providing a native experience of services, to its users for the past one year and was the first handset player to introduce one discovery window for the users called AROUND. In an industry first initiative AROUND aggregates information from various popular apps across categories including food, travel, shopping, cricket, news and weather and publishes it in a native environment on the device. The platform comes deeply integrated into Micromax devices and is available exclusively for Micromax users on Google Play store as well. Integrating global mobility app like Uber is a natural fit for AROUND given it is a signature use case with more and more people choosing to get a ride around town at the push of a button on their smartphones.

Partnership with Uber further builds the AROUND experience, and this first of its kind partnership with UBER will help people book an Uber ride on Micromax phones without having to download the app. The user will have both on-device native integration through in-house services including AROUND- and factory loading of the Uber app on Micromax devices. This will be available for all new Micromax users and over time, planned upgrades would be made available to existing users as well.

Commenting on the strategic partnership, Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax Informatics said, “Mobile is increasingly becoming the 24×7 companion for a user and the native experience combined with host of services are driving that trend. In the recent days, Indian economy has witnessed mobile playing a vital role right from digi-payments to travel to music to social engagement. We are committed to bring services and partners that are valued by our consumers and UBER is a testimony to that. This partnership will help UBER unlock growth across the huge user base of Micromax in India and also help our consumers get the best in class experience from the leaders in ride sharing. Our focus, going forward, will be on building native experiences that will bring alive a connected ecosystem.”

Eric Alexander, President for Business, Uber APAC said, “We are thrilled to work with India’s leading handset manufacturer, Micromax, in ensuring that millions of Indians get easy, instant access to the Uber app without having to download it. This seamless native user experience will introduce ridesharing, and the benefits it brings to riders, drivers and cities, to a new generation of smartphone users in India.”

This move will propel both the companies to create a feature-driven experience for today’s ever demanding smartphone users and as a part of this partnership, the Uber app will come in-built in close to 100 million Micromax smartphones. With this integration, Micromax users can:

  • Link their Uber account to the AROUND platform seamlessly
  • Get ETA and Fare estimates for Uber products
  • Book a ride on Uber without having to download the app
