Is Another Indian Data Centre business succumbing to the Acquisition Wave?
Following in the footsteps of Netmagic and Tata Communications, another Indian Data Centre business appears to be caught in the throes of acquisition. According to industry sources, Equinix, the American Data Centre company, is all set to venture into the Indian DC market. Equinix’s strategy to do so is by acquiring Sify’s Data Centre business and leveraging its countrywide strong foothold. Though what has been an ongoing discussion between the two organizations for the last couple of months is yet to be formally acknowledged.
The Indian Data Centre Market is expanding with an unprecedented increase in the number of Indian organizations, which is being complemented by the entry of foreign players in the marketspace. Earlier this year, the Real Estate giant, Hiranandani Group, entered the Indian DC market with the launch of Yotta Infrastructure. The company successfully roped in Sunil Gupta, former Executive Director, President and COO from Netmagic to lead its venture.
The last five years also witnessed a partnership between CenturyLink and Bharti Airtel’s Data Centre arm, Nxtra Data; the acquisition of Netmagic by NTT Data and the taking over of Tata Communications’ Data Centre business by STT GDC.
With the kind of foreign attention the Indian DC market is drawing, the enterprises can look forward to enhanced and diversified storage solutions as the companies strive to upgrade their portfolios to stay ahead of the growing competition.
