IESA – Nasscom to Organize DEFTRONICS 2016

Focus on Building India’s Strategic Electronics ecosystem for greater self-reliance and global relevance – Defence, Aerospace and Internal Security

India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (I E S A), the premier trade body representing the Indian Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry along with NASSCOM will be hosting DEFTRONICS 2016, the third edition of the annual Aerospace, Defence & Internal security focused event. This year’s theme is Building India’s Strategic Electronics ecosystem for greater self-reliance and global relevance – Defence, Aerospace and Internal Security sectors and the event will be held on Aug 4 & 5, 2016 at The Ritz Carlton, Bengaluru.

In continuation with its efforts to grow the Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) industry, I E S A with NASSCOM have come together under the DEFTRONICS umbrella to provide fillip to the Aerospace & Defence sectors. The recommendations of the Defence Electronics and System Design Policy will be announced by IESA-NASSCOM the event. The report will highlight the current sector wise industry capability of the Indian A&D industry. This industry is one of the most lucrative with a booming market and an ocean of opportunities for engineering design and manufacturing companies. India’s current requirements in defence are largely catered to by imports. The Global OEM and Indian companies alike are keen to leverage the opportunity of defence contracts, which reflects the success of initiatives like ‘Make in India’.

The platform will be strengthened with the presence of luminaries, industry experts and government officials. The event would be enriched with the presence of Hon. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister, Government of Karnataka. R. V. Deshpande, Minister for Large & Medium Industries & Infrastructure Development, Govt. of Karnataka. The event would also be enriched with the presence of Dr. V. K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Ayog, New Delhi; Commodore A. Anand, Additional Director General, WESEE; Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai Hon. Distinguished Professor, ISRO and former CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace and Jayant D. Patil, Sr. Vice-President & Head of Defence and Aerospace, L&T among many other dignitaries.

DEFTRONICS 2016 will bring together advocates from the government, industry, the academia and the global arena with business networking opportunities with over 750 International and Domestic delegates, participating from over six countries. The platform emphasizes mainly on opportunities in A&D and will have focused sessions on Defence, Internal Security, Aerospace, Defence Procurement Policy, Cyber Security, Design led Manufacturing, Opportunities arising from large deals, Defence clusters & perspective planning. The forum will also showcase success stories of various Indian and multinational companies, technology showcase by start-ups and many more.

Commenting on the occasion, M. N. Vidyashankar, President, India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (I E S A) said, “‘Make in India’ has given the required push to the Indian Aerospace and Defence Ecosystem in order to tackle import domination and create a self-sustained model. This does not only ensure domestic manufacturing, but also helps in generating adequate basis for driving R&D, Innovation and Intellectual Property in the nation as we expect to penetrate into high value of electronics. We expect the A&D sector to be the sunrise sector for manufacturing and potential to create substantial jobs additionally every year.”

DEFTRONICS 2015 drafted a new vision for the defence segment through a constructive discussion, led by government officials and industry thought leaders. It featured a powerful line-up of industry experts, government officials, strategists, policy makers and business leaders like JS Deepak, IAS, the then Secretary Department of Electronics and Information Technology, R.S. Sharma, Chairman, TRAI; Shubhra Singh, DIPP, Joint Secretary, Govt. of India; Dr. Ajit T Kalghatgi, Director R&D, Bharat Electronics Limited; Rahul Chaudhary, CEO, TATA POWERSED and Narayan Prasad, Co-founder, Dhruva Space, in the last edition.
