Huawei R&D centre in Bengaluru emerges as largest among all overseas R&D centres of the company; Leads industry innovation with over 450 patent applications
On day two of India Mobile Congress 2017, Huawei, the global ICT leader announced that the company’s R&D centre in Bengaluru has emerged as the largest among all overseas R&D centres of the company. The largest R&D centre by any telecom vendor in India, Huawei India R&D center is now a key platform, component and solutions development and delivery center for global markets, and has end-to-end ownership of all software platforms, components and products being developed in this center.
Established in 1999, Huawei India R&D center is engaged in developing products and components including telecom value-added service (VAS), business support systems (BSS), operation support systems (OSS), e-commerce, terminal device software, and cutting-edge software in the areas of Big Data, Cloud, network functions virtualization (NFV), software-defined networking (SDN), Internet of Things (IoT), and storage. The India center also actively participates in the telecom standardization efforts working along organizations such as IEEE, 3GPP, NGSON, ETSI and has contributed in industry defining areas such as network security, IP protocols and PCE applications. In the consumer devices segment, delivery of new Android OS upgrades for some of Huawei’s important product portfolio across the global market is also being done from Huawei India R&D center and the India R&D team is also working closely with Android Open Source Project initiative to bring android new feature to the Huawei smartphone users worldwide.
Huawei India R&D center has identified the need for collaboration and contribution to open source years ahead and has been playing active role in executing Huawei’s open source strategy and contributing to open source projects in SDN, NFV, Cloud, Big data and analytics domains. The India R&D center with the support of strong local eco-system is driving innovations in various domains through community collaboration and co-operation.
Commenting on the India R&D center, Jay Chen, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Telecommunications (India) Co. said, “Innovation is at the heart of everything we do and the reason why Huawei continues to maintain steady growth amid complex competition in the global ICT industry is continuous customer-centric innovation, a core driving force behind Huawei’s growth. Globally, we invest over 10% of our annual revenue in R&D, with total R&D investment over the past decade exceeding US$46 billion.”
“Huawei India R&D Center has evolved to play a bigger role in the innovation journey of Huawei, and is everyday creating future-oriented technologies, and supporting the digital transformation of the society. Going forward, it will be focusing on research in latest technologies like Real Time Artificial Intelligence, natural language processing and machine learning,” he added.
Globally, Huawei has over 17,000 network R&D personnel and has established R&D facilities in eight countries, including the US, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Russia, India, and Chinese cities such as Shenzhen, Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Hangzhou.
