Hitachi Vantara Unveils New Turnkey IoT Appliance, Powered by Lumada Software

Hitachi IoT Appliance Accelerates the Time to Insight and Value of IoT Solution Deployments for Industrial and Commercial Enterprise Customers

Hitachi Vantara unveiled a new appliance for internet of things (IoT) deployments: Hitachi IoT Appliance, powered by Lumada, Hitachi’s IoT platform. Delivered as a turnkey system, the appliance’s “hyperconverged meets microservices” architecture combines Hitachi’s best-in-class storage and compute with industry-leading networking technologies and comes fully integrated with Hitachi’s latest Lumada software. Hitachi IoT Appliance has been fully pre-architected and pre-validated to provide a plug-and-play solution that can be easily deployed and production-ready in under an hour. This gives users the ability to more rapidly connect, monitor and extract actionable insights from their business and industrial assets.

For enterprises looking to implement IoT initiatives as part of their digital business strategies, a secure IoT solution is necessary to connect physical assets, ingest and blend data from disparate sources at high speeds, and turn it into actionable insights without disruption to normal business processes. Despite a proliferation of IoT platforms and solutions in the market today, security concerns, complex IT deployment cycles, risk of downtime, infrastructure requirements and a lack of internal resources to support them have stalled many IoT initiatives—and in some cases, deterred organizations from embracing them altogether.

According to Gartner, Inc.: “Increasingly, enterprises are being asked either to implement or to participate in IoT solutions. Business units and outside partners are demanding IoT enablement of services and products. Unlike the adoption of other “new technologies,” IoT modifies and enhances existing services and products, which are already essential. IoT’s triple challenge is to implement quickly, avoid disruption of existing operations and ensure high levels of service quality.”[1]

Hitachi IoT Appliance is purpose-built to address these issues. From factory floors and solar farms, to water treatment plants and enterprise datacenters, analysis of connected data is helping organizations to optimize their operations. The expected result is greater performance and output, efficiency, efficacy and extended life of industrial equipment and capital assets. It simplifies IoT deployments in any number of industrial settings and can be placed at a location of a customer’s choosing—from edge to core—where data privacy, compliance, network limitations and other challenges can be more easily addressed. This can significantly reduce the associated risk, complexity and uncertainty of IoT deployments in enterprise and industrial environments, with faster time to insight, value and better business outcomes. Outcomes like streamlined operational efficiencies, improved asset utilization and product quality, better customer experiences and creating new revenue streams.

Designed to make it simple and intuitive for customers to put Lumada, Hitachi’s intelligent, composable and flexible IoT platform, to work, Hitachi IoT Appliance can help users to get their IoT solution deployments up and running — fast. Users can more rapidly realize the benefits of Lumada’s advanced data blending and orchestration, artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytics capabilities, which help to rapidly gather and manage data for analysis and extract rich insights that support better business decision-making.

“Hitachi IoT Appliance combines the best of Hitachi’s trusted IT infrastructure and data management solutions integrated with our intelligent, flexible and composable Lumada software and enhanced security features to provide enterprise organizations with the ability to rapidly implement IoT deployments at scale,” said Gaurav Bora, vice president, industrial IoT product management at Hitachi Vantara. “Our customers can now more quickly extract value and insight from their physical and digital assets, to support better decision-making and digital innovations that ultimately can help them to transform their businesses.”
