EMC Empowers Live India to Deliver News Faster

Enables the Hindi news channel to deploys its Isilon X200 series scale-out storage system storage to help in quicker processing and delivery of news

EMC has partnered with Live India to restructure its IT Infrastructure by implementing EMC Isilon X-Series Storage offering three nodes delivering 72 terabytes of storage. The offering would enable the Hindi News Channel to reduce the editing production time to deliver breaking news faster, transfer time efficiencies gained in storage management to other core areas of the business and deliver a flexible platform to provide further efficiencies through online editing.

According to the press release, through its deployment of Isilon storage, Live India will now be able to add capacity on demand due to the solution’s linear scalability and gain improvements in the performance of its editing software. Reliant on the time-consuming manual provisioning of storage to ensure availability for the editing team during breaking news stories, the company said that it faced a host of technical issues related to inefficiencies in connectivity and performance that interrupted live broadcasts reducing its effectiveness as a news broadcaster. To eliminate these issues, Live India will be implementing the Isilon scale-out storage to store its frequently accessed video data, archive raw and edited video and audio content. The solution will also provide its editors with the ability to complete video editing online in the future.

The single storage solution will also enable reduced management time giving Live India the opportunity to reallocate their time to other core areas of the business, working to reduce turnaround times, and ensuring the timely publishing of dashboards, the press release said.

Currently, EMC Isilon storage is installed for Live India’s Delhi operations. The broadcaster has plans to deploy a further Isilon X-series storage system at the company’s Mumbai location for improved performance and ease of maintenance.

Commenting on the partnership with EMC, Puneet Jain, IT Manager at Live India said, “Previously we were faced with a number of problems related to our storage. My entire team was engaged in issue resolution, which diverted our focus from the rest of the business. Now we have this time back to concentrate on strategic concerns regarding improving the effectiveness of our operations. EMC Isilon is highly suited to the media industry because system performance continues to improve as capacity is added.”

Amit Mehta, Country Manager, Isilon Storage Division at EMC India & SAARC added on the collaboration, “We are delighted to support Live India in its journey of transformation to cater to the increasing and new demands in its IT environment. This association is a significant milestone for us in the media and entertainment industry. The EMC Isilon-X series delivers great performance and massive capacity for a range of applications and workloads and we are confident that our solution can scale to meet the company’s projected storage requirements.”
