Acquisition boosts database capabilities for building intelligent, scalable applications on Cloudflare Workers

Cloudflare has acquired Outerbase, a developer-centric database company, to enhance the developer experience on its global platform. The move is set to simplify how developers create and manage AI-powered, database-backed applications using Cloudflare Workers.

With the surge in AI adoption, demand for scalable, context-aware apps has exploded — and nearly all rely on fast, accessible databases. The acquisition allows Cloudflare to fold Outerbase’s intuitive database tools into its ecosystem, helping developers of all levels build full-stack, AI-enabled apps more easily.

“We’ve built Outerbase on Cloudflare — now we get to help redefine the platform from within.”

— Brandon Strittmatter, CEO, Outerbase

“Businesses are racing to build AI-powered applications to be as productive, innovative, and competitive as possible,” said Matthew Prince, Co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “Outerbase’s technology and design expertise are an important factor in accelerating this improved developer experience.”

Outerbase was already built on Cloudflare Workers, making integration seamless across Cloudflare’s Durable Objects, D1, and Agents SDK. This acquisition also strengthens Cloudflare’s push to democratize database access and reduce barriers for non-SQL users.

“At Outerbase, our mission has always been to make working with data easier for developers,” said Brandon Strittmatter, Co-founder and CEO of Outerbase. “Joining Cloudflare allows us to keep doing that, but faster and at a much larger scale.”
