New feature delivers runtime-level visibility to streamline OpenJDK transitions and ensure licensing compliance
Azul, the Java-focused enterprise software company, has launched JVM Inventory, a powerful new feature within the Azul Intelligence Cloud that promises to significantly reduce the complexity, cost, and risk of migrating from Oracle Java.
With most enterprises facing spiraling Java subscription costs—up to five times higher under Oracle’s new employee-based pricing—Azul’s latest solution directly targets this pain point. The JVM Inventory enables IT teams and SAM (Software Asset Management) partners to gain deep runtime-level visibility across their Java environments, identifying which Oracle JVMs are in active use, which are redundant, and which may pose compliance risks.
“Azul’s new JVM Inventory is a game-changer,” said Evan Boyd, VP of Global Operations at Software Licensing Compliance. “It allows us to quickly uncover where Oracle Java is actually running, fast-tracking what was once a painstaking discovery process and enabling better migration and compliance strategies.”
“We’re giving enterprises the intelligence they need to take control of their Java environments,” said Scott Sellers, CEO and Co-Founder of Azul.
According to Azul’s 2025 State of Java Survey, 82% of organizations expressed concern over Oracle’s licensing model, and 88% are actively exploring OpenJDK alternatives. Yet, traditional migration approaches can take 6–9 months due to poor visibility and fragmented tools.
By combining JVM Inventory with the Azul Migration Toolkit (AMT) or existing SAM tools, enterprises can automate discovery, streamline migrations, and continuously track progress. The tool also supports post-migration monitoring, helping ensure Oracle Java doesn’t re-enter the environment—an essential feature for audit defense and long-term compliance.
“We’re giving enterprises the intelligence they need to take control of their Java environments,” said Scott Sellers, CEO and Co-Founder of Azul. “This is about more than migration—it’s about future-proofing your Java strategy.”
JVM Inventory is available now as a feature of Azul Intelligence Cloud, licensed based on average monthly JVMs monitored.
