In a significant move towards expanding digital connectivity in India, Airtel has announced an agreement with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet services to its customers. This marks the first such agreement in India, pending SpaceX’s regulatory approvals to operate Starlink in the country.

This partnership aims to explore how Starlink’s satellite-based internet can enhance Airtel’s service portfolio, particularly in remote and underserved areas. It also opens avenues for collaboration in enterprise connectivity, community networking, and infrastructure expansion, leveraging Airtel’s deep market expertise and extensive ground network.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

  • Starlink equipment availability at Airtel’s retail stores.
  • B2B and enterprise solutions, integrating Starlink’s services with Airtel’s offerings.
  • Rural and remote connectivity initiatives for schools, healthcare centers, and businesses.
  • Network expansion collaboration, utilizing Airtel’s infrastructure to strengthen Starlink’s reach in India.

Gopal Vittal, Managing Director & Vice Chairman, Bharti Airtel Ltd., emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership: “Working with SpaceX to offer Starlink to Airtel customers in India is a significant milestone. This collaboration enhances our ability to bring world-class, high-speed broadband to even the most remote parts of India.”

Gwynne Shotwell, President & COO, SpaceX, echoed this sentiment, stating: “We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India.”

With this collaboration, Airtel strengthens its position as India’s leading integrated communications provider, further expanding its satellite-based connectivity solutions alongside its existing partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb.

This agreement marks a major step forward in bridging India’s digital divide, ensuring that even the most rural areas gain access to fast, reliable internet connectivity.
