IBM to Set Up Software Lab in Lucknow to Advance Generative and Agentic AI

The move aims to fuel India’s AI ambitions and strengthen UP’s position as a tech innovation hub

IBM has announced the launch of a new state-of-the-art Software Lab in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marking a strategic expansion of its presence in India. The Lab will focus on pioneering developments in Generative AI and Agentic AI technologies, leveraging India’s growing tech talent and innovation ecosystem.

The facility will be located at Platinum Mall, Sushant Golf City, and will become a key part of IBM India Software Labs (ISL), one of IBM’s largest software development arms globally. It will develop AI-powered solutions using Large and Small Language Models (LLMs and SLMs) tailored to meet the evolving needs of businesses in India and beyond.

A Tech-Forward Vision for Uttar Pradesh

The move was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, who said the new lab would play a pivotal role in the state’s economic growth and align with plans to develop Lucknow into an “AI city.”

“The Lab will boost job creation, tap into local talent, and drive AI-led innovation to improve citizen services. Our government is committed to supporting IBM in this journey,” said the Chief Minister.

“The expansion of IBM’s Software Lab in Uttar Pradesh is a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to ‘Innovate in India’ for India and the world,” said Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India & South Asia. “This Lab will harness the region’s skilled workforce to develop next-gen AI solutions and contribute to India’s digital transformation.”

Vishal Chahal, Vice President, IBM India Software Labs, added that Lucknow’s talent pool and infrastructure make it an ideal location to fuel disruptive innovation. “Our new lab will help strengthen the local technology landscape while supporting India’s broader AI vision,” he said.

Roles and Opportunities Ahead

The Lucknow Software Lab will offer positions for software engineers, application developers, UX designers, technical testers, and more. It joins IBM’s existing labs in cities like Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, and Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar.

As part of IBM’s broader vision, the new lab aims to bring global best practices in software engineering and AI development to India’s emerging digital hubs, strengthening both economic and technological progress.
