Airtel, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Others Launch Safer Internet India Coalition
With nearly a billion internet users and a booming digital economy, India has become a hotspot for cyber threats. In a landmark move, industry leaders including Airtel, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Truecaller, Vodafone Idea, and others have joined forces to launch the Safer Internet India (SII) Coalition, a collaborative initiative aimed at tackling online fraud, promoting responsible AI use, and protecting vulnerable users.
The coalition, bringing together top digital service providers, telecom companies, and cybersecurity firms, will focus on preventing scams, misinformation, and cybercrimes through information sharing, public awareness campaigns, and best-practice initiatives.
“At Airtel, ensuring a secure digital experience is our priority,” said Rahul Vatts, Chief Regulatory Officer, Bharti Airtel. “By joining Safer Internet India, we reaffirm our commitment to making India’s digital landscape safer for all.”
Shivnath Thukral, Vice President, Meta India. “This coalition is a crucial step towards a safer internet, where we can work together to detect, prevent, and counter digital threats.”
With India ranking as one of the most cyber-attacked countries, experts stress the need for a collective approach. The coalition will facilitate real-time threat intelligence sharing, helping stakeholders—including businesses, government agencies, and civil society organizations—stay ahead of emerging risks.
“Online fraud is a growing challenge, and no company can fight it alone,” noted Shivnath Thukral, Vice President, Meta India.
As India embraces GenAI and other emerging technologies, the coalition will also promote ethical AI deployment. “India is leading GenAI adoption, but innovation must be responsible,” said Jyoti Pawar, Group General Counsel, Microsoft India. “This initiative ensures safety remains a top priority in the country’s digital revolution.”
From protecting first-time internet users to securing enterprises against sophisticated cyberattacks, Safer Internet India aims to build a trustworthy and inclusive digital ecosystem. Industry leaders agree—collaboration is the only way forward.
