Data has become the most important asset for all kinds of organizations in today’s information driven world. Coming out of silos, a hoard of systems now feed customer and business records into big data lakes, subsequently making it available for diverse use cases. With data becoming more dynamic, efficiency in moving data has become crucial giving rise to upgrades to new architectures like edge, core, and cloud. The new systems are adding intelligence to the data by mining and deep learning.
In a recent study commissioned by SAP called the ‘Digital Transformation Executive Study’, 94% of the top 100 leaders have already invested in big data analytics. This number can be expected to increase significantly in 2018. Recent years have witnessed upsurge in big data and analytics related business tasks with enterprises garnering unbelievable amounts of data. The next step is looking at different areas where this data can be utilized.
Industry expects analytical tools to become a norm as organizations focus on customer experiences and value delivery. Application areas of analytic tools will include security analytics to address threats from increasingly mobile workforces and application base that spans multiple clouds and explore alternate security paradigms, by detecting, predicting, and averting threats through accumulation and analysis of data from different sources. Another big application is productivity analytics, with AI integrated into business processes enabling better informed data driven decisions. A new emerging trend is Insights-as-a-service which is delivering data-driven decision making and strategizing for businesses. Cognitive technologies like machine learning and predictive analysis will help organizations deliver business goals and optimize business processes and strategies. Another new trend is the Smart Data platform which is a concoction of on-premise, cloud and hybrid framework. Smart Data Platforms are already witnessing wide implementation. There is an expected rise in opportunities and skill sets like data scientist, AI experts, and Data Analysts.
