Orange Business Services has been selected to support the communications requirements of the Bihar State Wide Area Network (NextGen B-SWAN 2.0) project.
The original B-SWAN solution, established in 2008, was an advanced communication infrastructure created by the Government of Bihar (GoB) to support e-Governance under the “Digital India” State initiative. Government offices and departments across the State access various services, such as videoconferencing, and multiple citizen applications, including iWDMS, VAT MIS, e-tendering applications, CTMIS and eDistrict, as well as general connectivity. However, due to limitations in the existing network architecture, there currently is a lack of bandwidth to meet the increasing demands of data, voice and video services.
As such, the GoB introduced the NextGen B-SWAN 2.0 to enhance the day-to-day communication and collaboration between the Government offices and departments. Orange was chosen to provide reliable network connectivity, along with services, such as Domain Name System, email, internet, voice and video. These services bring improvement, efficiency and reliability to the overall intra-government communication.
NextGen B-SWAN 2.0 will connect approximately 10,000 offices within the GoB through 674 PoPs. It will also provide IP telephony and videoconferencing to nearly 1,000 users across the State. More than 50,000 government users will use the network to access Internet and applications hosted at their state data center connected to B-SWAN 2.0.
“A strong State network will help India to provide effective e-governance with applications and collaborative services. Connectivity is an essential component of the “Digital India” campaign. Orange Business Services has the expertise and unmatched technical capabilities to help Governments to deliver seamless data, voice and video. We are honored to support the Government of Bihar and the “Digital India” initiative through this project,” said Bala Mahadevan, CEO, Orange Business Services, India.
