Rackspace Unveils MongoDB DBaaS in Hong Kong

ObjectRocket will help customers in Hong Kong to scale and manage big data in the cloud

Rackspace has launched ObjectRocket, its NoSQL MongoDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS), in Hong Kong. The service will help Rackspace’s customers in Hong Kong to scale and manage big data in the cloud for today’s most demanding applications announced the press release.

The offering is built upon hardware optimised specifically for MongoDB and easily accessed and integrated into existing systems, informed the company.

As data continues to increase exponentially, big data spending in the Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APeJ) region is predicted to reach US$1.02 billion in 2014 and will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CARG) of 34.1percent through 2017, according to analyst firm IDC.

Ajit Melarkode, MD, Rackspace (Asia Pacific), said, “Data growth continues to be one of IT’s biggest challenges – especially how to store it, access it and make use of it. ObjectRocket helps to address this challenge, as it allows companies to effectively process and analyse large volumes of data, transforming it into a competitive advantage.”

The company stated that Rackspace has precision-tuned its delivery of MongoDB to make it much faster for customers to use. With the availability of this offering in Hong Kong, customers will be able to benefit from a service that has been completely optimised for running MongoDB across all layers of the stack, from the network to the file system and the hardware. It is essentially a power socket for applications; users just plug it into ObjectRocket and Rackspace helps manage the scaling, sharding and performance of the database itself, freeing developer time to focus on the application itself.
